What is an Eco Ethical Makeup Artist?

And why would you choose to use one?

Slowly and steadily, todays beauty industry is embracing eco, vegan, ethical and genuinely clean makeup and skincare as we are finding out more and more how the chemicals in our skincare and makeup products are effecting our brains, and other organs.

Even women who are not neccisarily interested in clean and eco makeup for environmental reasons are choosing clean ethical makeup and skincare because the fragrances in our skincare are extremely toxic to our bodies – did you know that the chemicals applied to your skin are absorbed through your skin when you apply them – moving around in your bloodstream – causing inflammation where ever they land.

Toxic effects on the brain include poor memory and concentration, erratic behaviour, word confusion, mood issues, headaches, vertigo and cravings.

Choosing to become a eco ethical and sustainable makeup artist is a difficult choice. Sourcing ethical, clean, cruelty free and also vegan products that work really well is extremely challenging – navigating a path through so called eco products that actually aren’t and vegan products that are animal product free, but are still tested on animals is exhausting and involves a lot of research.

The other challenge is finding great products which also last for long periods of time on the skin, look great on the skin and come in a variety of colours and textures.

Plus another challenge – is finding which so called natural organic product doesn’t contain a variety of chemicals whilst touting that they are actually ‘clean’.

Understanding Eco-Ethical Makeup Artistry

  1. Sustainable Practices: Eco-ethical makeup artists prioritize sustainable practices in their work. This includes using eco-friendly and cruelty-free products, minimizing waste, and opting for reusable tools and packaging.
  2. Ethical Sourcing: They carefully choose products from brands that adhere to ethical sourcing practices, such as fair trade ingredients and transparent supply chains. This ensures that their makeup kits are not only eco-conscious but also support responsible production methods.
  3. Environmental Consciousness: These artists are mindful of the environmental impact of their profession. They may opt for biodegradable glitter, recyclable packaging, and eco-friendly disposables to reduce their ecological footprint.

Does that mean that my makeup will last on my face as long as I need it to?

Yes- your makeup will last – I have been practicing as a Ethical Makeup Artist for pretty well 39 years – choosing where possible cleaner and sustainable options because I found using chemical loaded makeup was making me sick. Plus – I have always been a campaigner for animal rights since I was very young.

All of my products last as long or longer than most makeup brands – when the skin is healthy and not struggling to breathe because of chemicals smeared all over it – or producing oil because the makeup is drying out the skin – it stays calm and all of the products applied will last till the last kiss goodnight.

Because I use the same eco ethical makeup products when I work as a commercial makeup artist – I know that the products I apply to a brides skin – will survive the long haul – because if makeup can stay on someone’s skin in the heat of the day with hot lights on the talent – it will definitely last on a bride’s skin (and family of course as well!).
